On Friday, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled 7-2 that law societies in British Columbia and Ontario have the right to refuse accreditation to Trinity Western University’s law school because of the school’s community covenant.
The school’s community covenant restricts sexual activity to married people, and it upholds marriage as a heterosexual union. Trinity Western University is a privately funded institution that educates students from broad-based evangelical presuppositions.
The Supreme Court of Canada has effectively upheld the right to sodomize and be sodomized at the expense of the rights of private property, freedom of association, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion. This ruling will have consequences, and it will almost certainly be used to significantly restrict our religious liberties even more in the future.
The aforementioned rights — private property, freedom of association, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion — have been the rights of Canadians since time immemorial. Indeed we can trace them back to Anglo-Saxon times. They are recognized in the English Bill of Rights of 1689, the Magna Carta of 1215, and the English Common Law.
The right to sodomize or be sodomized has never been considered a right until very recently. In fact, until 1869 sodomy was a capital crime in Canada punishable by death, and it was still illegal until the late 1960’s when it was taken off the books under the leadership of Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. That was all part of Trudeau’s vision to destroy a bi-cultural Canadian Christian consensus, English Canada being Protestant and French Canada being Catholic. Whether he had the full support of the Canadian people is debatable, but what is not debatable is that he sold our birthright for a bowl of soup.
The Supreme Court’s ruling effectively makes sodomy more sacrosanct than Christianity. Indeed the Beast, that is our state, has been seduced by the Great Whore of Babylon. The vine of Sodom has deep roots, and our state has clearly been grafted in.
We were once the True North Strong and Free. We are now occupied by a secular regime who are erasing our past and reducing us to slaves bound by illegal laws and illusory rights.
This has happened before. It’s not the first time. And each time it has happened, God has providentially risen up a leader who has restored a true rule and true rights. Typically, that leader has been a Christian.
In the 9th century, Vikings attempted to reduce England to their own slave camp. King Alfred the Great, a religious man who professed faith in Jesus Christ, arose as a liberator to restore order amidst chaos.
In the 13th century, King John viciously abused the English Church for his own gain. The Archbishop of Canterbury Stephen Langton, with the support of the English barons, met John at Runnymede in 1215 where he forced the king to sign Magna Carta and restore liberty to the Church and the English people.
In the 17th century, King James II seriously restricted freedom of religion under his tyrannical reign. The English Protestants supported William of Orange who arrived from Holland in 1688 to peacefully depose James and uphold the ancient rights of Englishmen in the Bill of Rights of 1689.
Even the legendary tales of Robin Hood and King Arthur tell the stories of valiant men who stood up to state tyranny and defended the rights of the common man. The story of our nation is the story of successive triumphs of liberty over dark reigns of tyranny. Canada, as a nation, unquestionably finds its genesis in England. We are rightful heirs of Anglo-Saxon liberty.
And that brings us back to the Supreme Court ruling of Friday. We have entered a very dark time in our nation’s history. It’s not the first time. But it’s a dark time. It’s satanic.
So what must we do as believers? We do as we have always done. We live free. We are not slaves the state. We are free. Yes, we are the rightful heirs of Anglo-Saxon liberties, but most importantly we have been bought by the blood Christ. We are free, and the Beast will never own us. The Whore of Babylon may seduce the Beast, but the Beast is not our master. We bow to Christ and to Him alone.
We will peacefully uphold the laws of our nation insofar as Scripture permits. But most importantly we will live by the constitution of our new kingdom which has been written upon our hearts, and we patiently wait for the fulfillment of our Lord’s promises (Matthew 5:3-10):
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
In other words, we will not back down. And with love we will conquer.
