To glorify God through the fulfillment of the Great Commission in the spirit of the Great Commandment.
Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 22:36-39 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
To glorify God means to manifest God’s presence in my life.
What is the glory of God? God’s glory is the manifestation of the character, the presence and the power of God. It is what emanates from Him. As heat is to fire, as wet is to water, as light is to bulb – glory is to God. Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God.” God has given every believer the capacity to display the reality of God in their life. In fact, that is the reason He saved us. Ephesians 1:12 says we are saved, “in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.” When we live in such a way that God is seen in us, we are, in fact, glorifying Him.
Ways we glorify God:
a. Our genuine worship of Him.
b. Our desire to know Him better.
c. Our actions exemplify Him in our lives.
d. Our service to Him by serving the church.
e. Our response to hardship and temptation.
f. Our boldness in making Jesus Christ known.
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
How do we believe that we can fulfill the Great Commission?
The great commission is fulfilled as disciples of Jesus Christ are fully matured. God is glorified as we manifest His character, presence and power in doing so. God does not want a church that is simply busy for Him, but a church that is busy for Him in a way that displays Him and brings Him glory. We will never fully accomplish his mission for us until we all are glorified but we must never stop, pressing on boldly to mature each person in Christ through discipleship.
How do we believe that we can live out the Great Commandment?
The great commandment exhorts us to love God with everything that is in us. This means worship, obedience in our walk and faithfulness to our call. It also demands that we love our neighbor as ourselves and live our lives for the benefit of others.
As we walk in the Spirit and seek to surrender to His control and leadership in our lives He will produce the fruit of the Spirit in our relationships and lifestyle thus fulfilling the great commandment.
