John Newton (1725-1807) on The Law of God
“Ignorance of the nature and design of the law is at the bottom of most religious mistakes.”1
This is helpful stuff: “Scripture shows that God intends His law to function in three ways, which Calvin crystalized in classic form for the church’s benefit as the law’s threefold use.”
The Woke Church Is Not Biblical
Sadly, there are some strange winds of doctrine creating division among American evangelicals. I’m starting to hear similar ramblings north of the 49th. Dr. James White offers a biblical critique of this movement. You can also listen to audio here.
A lot of people are talking about Girl Wash Your Face. It looks like another “Christian” bestseller that is hardly Christian and shouldn’t sell. If you’d like a discerning overview, Tim Challies already took the plunge and resurfaced with this helpful review:
“Girl, Wash Your Face falls woefully short in both its diagnosis of the problem and its proposal for a cure. In its own way it actually leads women farther from holiness and, ironically, farther from happiness.”
Questions for Pastor Paul Carter
Member of Trinity Bible Chapel, Eric Scheider, has some questions for Pastor Paul Carter. I hope he also gets some answers.
“It’s my opinion Pastor Carter’s continued assertion that Bruxy Cavey affirms Penal Substitutionary Atonement is not helpful, and actually serves to further muddy the waters and denigrate truth of the matter. I must say that if Pastor Carter cannot, in light of the full body of Cavey’s teaching, defend his assertion that Cavey teaches a form of Penal Substitutionary Atonement, then for the sake of clarity and truth he ought to quit repeating it.”
…but get a charge out of watching it on YouTube:
