On March 4, 2020, we were part of an event put on by Laurier Chinese Christian Fellowship from Wilfrid Laurier University that sought to answer the question “Is Social Justice Just?” The event consisted of four short lectures on topics related to social justice followed by a Q&A. The video for each of these lectures is posted below. The Q&A will be up in the next week or so.
Talk #1: “What is Social Justice?” – Dr. Scott Masson
Dr. Scott Masson is the Associate Professor of English Literature at Tyndale University in Toronto and holds a PhD from the University of Durham in England. His areas of research and teaching include: classical and contemporary literary theory, cultural apologetics, Christianity, human nature, and the Enlightenment. He’s especially interested in exploring the way that the humanities have been repealed and replaced by the human sciences and a new constructivist anthropology. Dr. Masson has also been a pastor and is a proud husband and father of 2.
Talk #2: “What Problems has Social Justice Caused?” – Dr. Tony Costa
Dr. Tony Costa is the Associate Professor of Apologetics at Toronto Baptist Seminary as well as an instructor at the University of Toronto and Heritage College and Seminary. He holds a PhD from Radboud University in the Netherlands. His areas of research and teaching include: biblical and systematic theology, the new age movement, and comparative world religions. He also currently serves as a pastor and is happily married to his wonderful wife and is a father of 3 children and a grandson.
Talk #3: “How has Social Justice Negatively Affected the University Campus?” – Dr. David Haskell
Dr. David Haskell is the Associate Professor of Digital Media and Journalism as well as religion and culture at Wilfrid Laurier University. He currently holds a PhD from Potchefstroom University in South Africa. His areas of research and teaching include: the sociology of religion, religion in Canada, media in Canada, and religion and media in Canada. Dr. Haskell has also enjoyed careers as a high school teacher, professional musician, and motivational speaker.
Talk #4: “What is the Solution to Social Justice?” – Pastor Jacob Reaume
Pastor Jacob Reaume is the Senior Pastor at Trinity Bible Chapel. He currently holds a Master’s in Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He is happily married to his high school sweetheart and together they have five children.
