As I learned at the rink growing up, you don’t get to pick your spots.  Sometimes you just end up being bashed against the boards in the corner while chasing the puck, even if you’d rather be the finesse guy gracefully twirling around the defencemen to deke out the goalie for the game winner in overtime.  It is what it is.

I’ve made some very strong statements about Bruxy Cavey.  He might be Canada’s most recognizable church leader, and he pastors one of Canada’s largest churches.  He is in the middle of what I believe is the most significant theological controversy Canadian Evangelicals have faced in 70 years—probably the most significant theological controversy since the modernist/fundamentalist controversy.

Since the days of Pierre Trudeau, Dominion Day has been Canada Day, and Canada has become increasingly and intentionally multicultural.  I somehow link the change from Dominion Day to Canada Day with the move towards multiculturalism, a concept of which I am not particularly fond.  Just saying that is enough to provoke the ire of not a few well intentioned Christians, not to mention the scorn of the Laurentian consensus.  And because of that, I offer what I consider to be some major problems with Canada’s multicultural vision, a vision for which our nation must repent.

King Alfred the Great is the only English king ever to have had the name, “Great.”  He lived and reigned during the second half of the 9th c., and he rose to greatness in what is likely the darkest hour of English history.  His royal family had fallen to a palace coup, the British Isles were under constant Viking siege, and his own people turned on him early in his reign.  Amidst the hardship, King Alfred rose to become an English king whose vision for his island nation still bears fruit among the world’s most prosperous and free nations even today.  Below, I offer some reasons why he’s considered “Great.”

We live in a world that is gayproud.  And in that world we must be Christian.  But how?  Some so-called churches have joined the lemming-run by appointing gay leaders and marrying gay parishioners.  Others have remained silent, crossing their fingers to wishfully dream away this high point of moral decadence.  Neither one of those are acceptable responses.  The first is a sin of commission: committing evil by participating in it.  The second is a sin of omission: omitting good by keeping silent when one should speak.  I’ve seen others become corrosively bitter.  That too is only fighting sin by becoming sinful, so really it’s just joining the parade.
